How to set it up
Now that we know what it is and why it’s important, let’s go through how to set it up for your business.
Step 1
Go to https://google.com/business/ and click sign in (Sign into your google account if you aren’t already)

Enter your business name
Note: Your business might already be listed or you may need to add the business. You have the option to select an existing business listing or add your business.
For the purpose of this post, we’ll assume your business isn’t listed.

Go through the process and enter more business information. They’ll ask questions like:
- Business category
- Business Locations, if any
- Contact phone number & website url

Step 4
Google will need you to verify your Google My Business listing before it’ll be active and appear in google search or map results.
First, you’ll need to enter your address.
Google has various options to verify your listing, which will also depend on the location of your business.
Some of the most popular options available are:
- Phone Call
- Text message
- Postcard delivered to your physical address
Note: You can choose to get your business verified later but remember that you won’t be able to unlock many of the features of Google My Business until your business is verified.

The key to getting customers with your Google My Business listing is to ensure that your profile is optimised completely.
The more completely you fill out your profile, the greater the chances of your business showing up in the search results when potential clients search for your products.

You can download the Google My Business App on the iOS Store or Android Store to help you manage and monitor your business listing on the go.
8. Additional Perks: Free Website
If you don’t have a website for your business yet, Google My Business allows you to set up a website easily that is connected to your profile.
While we recommend having a website that you actually own and have absolute control over, if you’re not there yet or just getting started, this could be a great tool to take advantage of.
