Thing is, many businesses are faced with the challenge of making sure that all their marketing activities deliver the most impact or give some form of valuable result. When using social media for business, there’s a feeling of desperate need to have a presence on every social media platform, before you know it, you get overwhelmed with having to manage too many networks. So you are caught in the middle of two decisions.
- Making sure that my target audience is on this social media platform
- Trying to figure out the best social media business tips needed to find these people and keep them engaged.
You can’t be on 4 or 5 social media platforms, giving all of them half-effort and think you will generate results. No! You Won’t.
You need to find the best social media platform that has the highest concentration of your audience, create a consistent plan of action and start working that plan.
In this post, you will learn 7 social media business tips that will help you create an engaging audience and grow your business.
Let’s do this.
1. All Content Must Have A Purpose.
Thought it’s mission critical to give information out about your business and services to your audience, if it doesn’t have a purpose, you are just wasting a lot of effort, time and energy on it. Social media is one of the best platforms you use to create an engaging audience and build a business community. In most cases, content with a purpose plays a major role in building and maintaining this community. So it’s advisable that you put content at the center of your entire social media strategy because it’s the start of your customers journey.
Whatever content your put out there should do one of the following things:
a. Encourage visitors to click “Like” and become fans
b. Create an opportunity to offer a valuable offer in exchange for a name and an email address
c. Encourage fans to click Learn More and become a subscriber (bleh same as b.)
d. Be engaging so it inspires fans and non-fans to drop a comment or share a post.
e. Provide a link to a new blog post for them to read, comment on and share.
2. Invest in Social Media
Most people and businesses are satisfied with the idea of just having a presence on any social media platform and that’s just good enough. Well it’s not.
Social media is like a farm. What you sew, is what you will reap. Whatever you invest into it, is what you will be rewarded with. Don’t expect to put in so little effort and reap a bountiful reward, it doesn’t work that way.
Now when I say “invest”, I mean, “stop taking advantage of the organic feeds and reach. Pay for people to come and learn about you and your business.” Doing this closes the door to just anyone who stumbles on your page and gives you quality people who are interested in doing business with you and view you as a servant to their needs.
This social media business tip encourages loyalty, trust, and social proof between you and your customers. Though it is a gradual process towards increasing your social community and brand presence, investment efforts will bring in sales (when done right).
So what you want to do is decide on a marketing budget for your ideal social media platform and start paying to get quality leads.
3. Use Social Media To Build KLT – Know, Like and Trust.
Before you earn the right to sell to anyone, they must have a need to know, like and trust you. This one major social media business tip most people or businesses don’t make use of. They think because they have a great product then the whole world wants to buy it. WRONG!
If they do not know you, they can’t like you enough to trust you, so they won’t buy from you because they don’t think you have the ability to solve their problem.
Let’s dig deeper into the KLT strategy…
Know – This is where your ads fall in, putting the right kind of content in front of your audience and giving them free offers in exchange for their contact details. When all this work in harmony, you have an audience that know you but this step is always evergreen. You’ve got to make sure that you are always doing this at all times.
Like – This has to do a lot with the engagement you have with your audience, through blog posts, social media updates and the regular emails you send to always keep you in their minds.
Trust – Doing sales presentations, giving white papers, and adding a human touch to your marketing and social media strategy encourages trust. Your audience feels you care and are really looking forward to a transformation not focused on just selling your product to them.
This whole process makes it so easy for a lead to make a buying decision.
So it’s content, content, and more content that gets your audience from KNOW to BUY.
Some would go from KNOW straight to BUY and are wondering why there is no improvement in sales.
You need to create ways to gradually move your audience from know to trust by giving them low end offers or free trials so it’s easier to ultimately convert to sales.
You also need to monitor what your clients and fans are saying and doing on various social media platforms so that you are always serving a need and build relationships and you are doing what things much different from your competition.
4. Get Busy Growing or Dying
This social media business tip has been a determining factor for success for many businesses using social media for growth and lead generation. Simply put, you can implement all the strategies and have a huge success on social media, high quality leads, a consistently engaged business community, as long as you do all the right things listed above or you can get busy dying, thinking that just creating profiles on various social media platforms is the way to go.
- If you aren’t actively putting up posts on LinkedIn and connecting with similar interests people, you will never grow.
- If you aren’t constantly updating your FaceBook fan page with not only business tips but letting them in on the real you (not just business) and promoting something, your business will never grow.
- On Instagram, it’s even more tricky. You stop posting for less than a week, you begin to loose people who resonated with you and your business. I could go on but I’m hoping you get the full picture with these 3 illustrations.
5. Show Who’s Behind The Scenes.
So it’s cool to provide all the business secrets that’s needed to educate your audience but they also want to see the person behind the scenes. The business owner, the lifestyle they have, their personality, fun or introverted, single or married, with or without kids, etc. Stop doing the same things everyone is doing. Let them see the real you.
Put up things that you are passionate about… let them know you also love doing fun things. Like traveling, cooking your favorite or worst meals depending on the occasion :), taking selfies, snap chatting, putting up engaging questions and quotes, hanging out with family and friends… keep your page or news feed interesting, different and fun!
Don’t forget to use the oldest rule in the book, “be authentic”. People love people and that’s what business is about. You don’t create relationships with a building, you create relationships with the people in the building. Once they know you (the person), like and trust you, they will want to do business with you.
6. Use Social Media To SCALE Your Business.
This social media business tip is one of my favorite – moving your business from where it is now, to where you want it to be.
S – Social. Find out where your target audience is and be there.
C – Content. This is the center of all your social media activities.
A – Ads. You can’t run a successful social media campaign without doing this.
L – List building. Your only way to get new potential clients interested in doing business with you.
E – Emails. Engage with your list to increase sales.
So Like I mentioned earlier, most businesses want to be active on all the social media platforms thinking they are really scaling their business. But the sad truth is, they find themselves not giving their 100% effort into making these platforms work for them. Stop trying to be the King of the Jungle.
Put in your very best on one social media platform.
First, determine which platform has a concentration of your target audience – I’m talking about where they live, work and even play.
Then, develop a strategy that consistently keeps them engaged and with every content you share. Remember, make sure it has a purpose and a call to action.
Once you know how to do this and you are doing it exceptionally well; watch how your returns on investments will increase.
In time, you will be able to replicate your success on another social media platform and rinse and repeat for all other platforms that house your ideal clients.
In conclusion, the most important thing is,
7. Be Consistent.
Everything we just explained above won’t make sense to you or your business, if there is no form of consistency attached to all your activities, these social media business tips is just a bunch of theories.
In other words, start listening to your audience, develop content about the secrets they need to know that your competition isn’t telling them, make sure you are always solving a need, you are entertaining, fun and not shy about letting people know about the real person behind the business and watch how fast you will rise.
So how do you get started?
Write down all of the most interesting and hard-to-answer questions that some of your customers have and create online content from each question. An easy way to do is to create a social media editorial calendar… how do you do this? That’s an article for another day.
